Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) is a multidisciplinary university established jointly by Beijing municipal government and the Ministry of Urban-Rural Development. As the only university specialized in architecture in Beijing, BUCEA also works as "Beijing City Planning, Construction and Management of Personnel Training Base and Technology Service Base", "Beijing Climate Change Research and Personnel Training Base" and "National Architectural Heritage Protection Research and Personnel Training Base". BUCEA is honored as the pilot university by the Ministry of Education’s “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program” and the advanced ideological and political base in Beijing by the Party.

BUCEA was originated from a primary industrial school founded by the Qing government in 1907, and later renamed as “Beijing Senior Vocational School”, “Beijing Municipal Industrial School”, “Beijing City Architectural College”, “Beijing Civil Engineering School”, “Beijing Construction Engineering School”, “Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture”. In April 2013, the Ministry of Education approved the current name as “Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture”. In May 2016, the university is also approved as "the future of urban design high-tech innovation center" and “Beijing high school high-tech innovation center."

BUCEA has two campuses: Xicheng and Daxing. Xicheng campus covers an area of 325,000 square meters and Daxing campus covers an area of 501,000 square meters. Today, Daxing campus is heading towards the high-quality undergraduate talent training base, while Xicheng campus focuses on building an advanced graduate training center. Our library has the largest architecture collections in China with 1.559 million paper collection, 1.3 million e-books, and 52large electronic literature databases.

BUCEA has comprehensive disciplinary, owning ten colleges and one basic teaching center combining with Continuing Education School, International Education Institute and Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Institute. For the undergraduate education, there are 34 undergraduate majors, including 3 national specialty programs and 7 specialty programs in Beijing. The graduate school has a special demand for national service personnel training doctoral project, a post-doctoral research stations, 12 A-level discipline master, covering 55 master degree level disciplines. Furthermore, the graduate school has a master's degree authorization organization, five professional degree and professional degree category point field point eight projects. It is noteworthy that BUCEA has 3 key A-level disciplines in Beijing - architecture, civil engineering, surveying and mapping science and technology, 2 key construction disciplines in Beijing. In the national discipline assessment organized by the Ministry of education in 2012, architecture, surveying and mapping ranked ninth.

BUCEA has more than 1000 staff including 660 full-time teachers. There are 232 teachers with a master's degree in full-time teachers, 369 teachers with doctoral degrees, 395 teachers with senior professional technical posts, 116 professors and 27 doctoral supervisors. BUCEA has many outstanding talents and excellent team, such as the Yangtze River Scholars, the National Outstanding Young Scholars of Science Foundation, and National Teaching Masters and so on. In 2014, the school won the first prize of national teaching results with national experimental teaching demonstration center and other 10 national undergraduate teaching projects. In the past five years, students have received 598 awards from provincial and ministerial departments in science and technology cultural activities in the national and capital universities. There are 11645 students of all kinds. Over the years, the school has trained more than 60, 000 outstanding graduates in the country who have become the backbone of the national and capital city construction system. Among many alumni, some are famous, such as "contemporary Luban" Li Ruihuan, "the nuclear industry base-founder" Zhao Hong, “Chinese Academy of Engineering” Zhang Zhaoming and many outstanding talents. The total employment rate of graduates has been maintained at more than 95 %. The school has formed a characteristic discipline field and innovation team, represented by architectural heritage conservation, urban and rural planning and architectural design, urban transportation infrastructure and underground engineering, sponge city construction, modern urban surveying and mapping, solid waste resources technology, green building and energy saving technology. BUCEA has 25 provincial and ministerial key research bases, more than 70 awards in science and technology achievement awards above provincial level, the funding for science and technology services exceeding 200 million yuan. Looking into the international education, our university has established cooperation with 60 universities in 26 countries and regions of the United States, France, Britain and Germany.
